Pinckney, Benavides spark surges in Chillicothe and Clarinda, earn weekly honors

Chillicothe and Clarinda are two of the hottest teams in the MINK League. Standout players from each squad have played a pivotal role in that resulting in weekly awards from the league. The Mudcats' Jarian Pinckney slugged his way to the MINK Player of the Week award, while A's righty Noah Benavides flirted with perfection and brought in league pitcher of the week honors.

Jarian Pinckney, Mudcats

After losing four straight to start the summer, the Mudcats have found another gear winning five of six. Pinckney came on strong over the last three contests, his first three games of the summer, and gave Chillicothe a lift in tight games.

The outfielder from Andrews, SC batted .462 (6-13) with a home run, five RBIs, and two stolen bases. In the Mudcats' 11-8 triumph over Jefferson City, Pinckney started a rally with Chillicothe down by three in the seventh inning. His two-run home run brought the 'Cats within one of the Renegades. Then in the eighth inning, Pinckney came through with the go-ahead RBI single, sparking a six-run frame.

Pinckney just finished his junior season at Spartanburg Methodist College in South Carolina where he garnered Continental Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year recognition batting .365 with 39 RBIs during the spring.

Noah Benavides, A's

Benavides provided the most dominant pitching performance of the young season last week when he delivered seven no-hit innings in a 5-0 win over Nevada. Benavides combined with Kaleb Hills on the first no-hitter of the summer.

Fresh off a loss to the Griffons the night before, Benavides stepped up with five strikeouts, one walk and one hit batter. The righty from Murrieta, CA needed just 75 pitches to get through seven innings.

The quick response from Benavides put Clarinda back in the win column and sent the A's on their current five-game win streak.

Benavides is in his second summer with Clarinda. He had a 3.64 ERA in 12 appearances (seven starts) in 2024, and proved to be a reliable arm for the A's. He signed to pitch for The Master's University in Santa Clarita, CA next season.
