Jefferson City blanks Carroll to reach MINK Semis

Jefferson City took control early and never gave Carroll and opening Tuesday night on the way to a 10-0 seven-inning win in the MINK League wild card round.

The Renegades came out of the gate fast thanks a two-RBI double from Austin Evans, and later a run-scoring single by Will Bachman. That began offensive onslaught from Jefferson City with two more in the fourth, two in the sixth and three in the seventh to shut the door on the Merchants.

Backing the fierce attack at the plate, Sam Wyrick and Canon Feist were stellar for the Renegades on the mound.

Wyrick tossed four innings scattering four hits and striking out three batters. He handed the ball to Feist for the final three frames, and things didn't get easier for Carroll.

Feist walked Hayden Oliver, the second batter he faced, with one out in the fifth inning. Trailing by five, Oliver tried to force the issue for the Merchants attempting to steal second base, but Jefferson City catcher Ben Miller cut him down with a strong throw to second. That cleared the bases for Feist, and he didn't allow another baserunner the rest of the game.

At the plate, Jefferson City's Jack Dunn went 4-4 with three runs. Evans finished with two hits and drove in four.

The Renegades advance to the semifinal round of the playoffs Wednesday against the Clarinda A's.
